Specialty Programs
Some of the best things our school has to offer are the various specialty programs. At Unity Reed, there really is a program for everyone, from cosmetology to firefighting. In these programs, students are able to explore different career paths as well as make connections with professionals in those careers.
Take a look at the descriptions below to see which programs you might be interested in joining during your time at Unity Reed High School.
IB Middle Years Program
The IB Middle Years Programme is for 9th and 10th grade students who are interested in advanced classes and receiving a globally-minded education. IBMYP courses encourage critical thinking and challenge students to take ownership of their education. The Middle Years Program culminates in the students' individual Personal Project where students independently develop and project of their choice. The IBMYP classes at Unity Reed are a continuation of the program at Unity Braxton Middle School.

IB Diploma Program
The IB Programme has been at Unity Reed High School for over 20 years. Our programme focuses on creating students who are inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and risk-takers, all while being principled, open-minded, caring, knowledgeable, balanced and reflective. In 11th and 12th grade you can choose to be part of the IB Diploma Programme, an array of rigorous advanced academic classes with the opportunity to earn college credits. Students can have several levels of involvement, from being a full diploma candidate , achieving Reed IB Honors, or being an IB course candidate, in as few as just 1 IB course.

IB Career Program
The other option is to be part of the IB Career-Related Programme which is a mix of rigorous academic classes and a career related elective path, such as Air Force JROTC, business, cosmetology, electricity, engineering, leadership development, or teaching. Throughout your years at Unity Reed in the IB Programme there is an emphasis of service to the community and exploration of knowledge. The IB Career Programme is much like the Diploma Programme and involves the same course offerings, but it pairs two IBDP courses with a career-related study.

AFJROTC
Reed's unit VA-20065 AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Recruit officer Training Corp) strives for excellence and is based on U.S Air Force Core Values, "Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do." Cadets have no obligation to the military after high school. Rather, our main goal is to develop citizens of character and integrity.

Firefighting
Unity Reed High School is proud to partner with Prince William County Fire & Rescue to offer students Firefighting beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. Interested students must be 16 and complete the application.
The program combines traditional classroom instruction with blended field experience and requires students to complete and pass a physical examination before enrollment.

Cosmetology
There are many reasons why you may choose a career in Cosmetology. Helping others look their best can result in a great feeling of personal fulfillment and accomplishment. If you enjoy helping your friends and family members style their hair or apply makeup consider doing this as a profession. A licensed Cosmetologist is always in demand regardless of the economy. A career in the field of Cosmetology is an excellent opportunity to earn high wages as a full time employee or as a flexible part time job.
