French Honor Society

The National French Honor society’s mission is to foster and encourage the study of the French language and culture. The motto for French National Honor Society is:

‘’L'homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux’’

‘’A man who knows two languages is worth two men’’

The FHS provides an opportunity to recognize outstanding scholarship in the study of French language through selection for membership, the placement of a special seal on the graduate's diploma, the wearing of a white cord at graduation, and the right to wear the official emblem/pin of the honor society.

In addition, there is the opportunity for students to experience leadership in serving as officers, directing the initiation ceremony, and/or leading other chapter events. The French week: We will be celebrating National French Week this year on Nov. 4-10, 2020! It is usually held in conjunction with the "National French Week" sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).

Our activities this year may include:

Ø Making cards for homeless shelters in France which may be overfilled due to the pandemic.

Ø We write letters to nursing home patients in France

Ø Kahoot, cooking demonstration, virtual Netflix party, virtual field trip, museums with virtual exhibits

Ø Online tutoring

Ø Read French children's books to an elementary virtual class. Students could work in small groups to write lessons, maybe an elementary teacher would welcome them into their class zoom for a short lesson & game.

Ø virtual presentation on various topics related to the French Culture

Ø Students can create some short videos on Francophone related topics...linguistic, historical, holidays….

Hear from students in FHS!
"French Honor Society is a great way to learn more about the French culture. It is for people who are in higher level French classes and passionate about the language. We host many fun events and listen to french music! We will continue to adjust our plans for the virtual school year!" -Abigail Turner

How can you qualify for FHS?

The society is made up of junior and senior students with a 3.0 GPA, a B+ or A average in French overall. All new members are inducted into the society in the spring. Students who are in the 10th or 11th grade completing their 3rd year in French and are selected by their teachers, will be inducted. The French Honor Society sponsors tutorials on Mondays and Wednesdays for all students in French levels, 1, 2, and 3. The members also meet once a month to plan fundraisers and cultural events. Please contact Mme. Ihaddadene for information on the French Honor Society. French Society members must earn 17 points total by the end of the year. Each meeting is worth one point, two points are awarded for service projects and events. We ask that students earn at least eight points through tutoring other French students.
