Escalgots

Escalgots is a dish consisting of cooked edibles land snails. They are often served as an hours’ d’oeuvre and consumed by the French people as well as people in Germany, Great Britain and Portugal. Not all land species of land snail are edible. In France Helix pomatia is most often eaten by the French people.In French cuisine the snails are typically purged and killed. Then they remove them from the shells and cook them with garlic butter or wine.Escargots are naturally high in protein and low in fat.The first recorded use in English of the French word escargot to mean "edible snail" dates from 1892.
